Two defencemen highlight Swiss roster

ZURICH – Swiss Ice Hockey announced the 22 players travelling to Kazan, Russia, for the IIHF World U18 Championship, which begins on Sunday.

The Swiss roster includes two National League A defencemen: Roman Josi of SC Bern and Lukas Stoop of HC Davos. Both are considered as early draft candidates. Josi is ranked fifth among European skaters in the NHL Central Scouting Bureau’s ranking.

Switzerland earned sixth place at the last year's U18 Championship in Finland.

The roster of Switzerland’s Under-18 national team:

Goalkeepers: Benjamin Conz (Servette Geneva), Sandro Zurkirchen (EV Zug).

Defencemen: Jannik Fischer (EV Zug), Fabian Ganz (GCK Lions), Patrick Geering (GCK Lions), Roman Josi (SC Bern), Romain Loeffel (HC Fribourg-Gottéron), Dominik Schlumpf (GCK Lions), Lukas Stoop (HC Davos).

Forwards: Oliver Baur (SC Bern), Alain Berger (SC Bern), Renato Engler (HC Davos), Nicolas Gay (Servette Geneva), Pascal Gemperli (Kloten Flyers), Mauro Jorg (EHC Chur), Marc Kampf (HC Davos), Nicolas Kormann (EHC Wiki-Münsingen), Pascal Marolf (SCL Tigers), Ryan McGregor (GCK Lions), Nino Niederreiter (HC Davos), Sven Ryser (GCK Lions), Reto Schappi (GCK Lions).
