Czech Republic and Norway celebrate U18 promotion.

RIGA, Latvia – Norway celebrated a gold medal win at the IIHF Word U18 Championship Division IB in Riga after winning the deciding game against host Latvia on Sunday. The Nordi nation also beat Italy, 2-1, in its last game. The Latvians were already the silver medal winners with the Italian loss but entertained their fans with a 9-0 win prior to the closing ceremony.

Italy  not only lost its hopes for silver but was also overtaken by Austria, which won its last game against the Netherlands, 2-0,  winning bronze. Italy finished fourth, followed by Japan and the Netherlands, which was relegated to Division II.

The Czech Republic dominated its last opponent, Slovenia, in the other Division I group and sent the team to Division II with an 8-2 slam. The Czechs return to the elite nations with a 5-0-0 record and 36-5 goals.

Kazakhstan had the silver medals secured and lost against host Poland, 4-1. It was the second win for Poland helping the hosts avoid relegation. Poland finished fourth and had six points as well as bronze medallist Lithuania and sixth-ranked Ukraine. Lithuania secured the bronze with a 4-2 win against the Ukraine in the last round.
