After two years in Canada, next year’s IIHF World U20 Championship will be played in the United States just a few miles from the Canadian border in New York, December 26, 2010 to January 5, 2011.
The main venue will be the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, home of the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres. The second venue will be Dwyer Arena on the Niagara University campus, about 20 miles from Buffalo.
“Buffalo is a wonderful city and we could not be more pleased to be bringing the World Juniors to western New York,” said Ron DeGregorio, president of USA Hockey. “The Sabres are a first-class organization and the participants and fans from around the world will have the chance to experience that first-hand.”
The potential groups according to the IIHF Sport Regulations:
Group A:
USA (1), Switzerland (4), Finland (5), Slovakia (8), Germany (9).
Group B:
Canada (2), Sweden (3), Russia (6), Czech Republic (7), Norway (10).
The schedule will be announced later, but ticket packages for the 17 games in Buffalo and the 31 games in both venues are available starting from $29 per game.
