Russia's bid for three straight titles falls short

COLOGNE – In dramatic fashion, the Czechs have returned to the top of the hockey world. They ended a 27-game Russian win streak at the IIHF World Championship with a 2-1 gold medal victory, claiming the crown for the first time in five years.
Andersson's third-period goals the difference in 3-1 win

COLOGNE – Jonas Andersson's goals early and late in the third period held up as Sweden beat Germany 3-1 in the bronze-medal game this afternoon. It was the second straight year the Swedes finished third.

COLOGNE – Russia has advanced to the World Championship final, as expected, but it had to work the full 60 minutes in the game against Germany. Pavel Datsyuk and Evgeni Malkin scored for Russia.

COLOGNE – Jan Marek scored the shootout winner to give the Czechs a 3-2 win over Sweden and a place in tomorrow’s gold-medal game for the first time since 2006.
Germany to semi-finals for the first time with 1-0 win over Swiss
MANNHEIM – A quick goal from Philip Gogulla midway through the second period and sensational goaltending from Dennis Endras was all Germany needed to beat Switzerland 1-0 to advance to the semi-finals.

COLOGNE – Russia continued its march to a third straight gold medal with a 5-2 triumph quarterfinal victory over Canada on Thursday for its seventh straight win at the 2010 IIHF World Championship and its 26th consecutive victory. They will play Germany on Saturday.
Czechs send Finns packing after a penalty shootout, 2-1
COLOGNE – Tied after 70 minutes of battle, it all came down to a penalty shootout. Lukas Kaspar and Jan Marek scored for the Czechs and sealed the win.
After QF win over Danes, Swedes head to semis versus Czechs
MANNHEIM – With a solid 4-2 quarterfinal victory over Denmark, Sweden moved on to Saturday's semi-finals versus the Czech Republic in Cologne. This marks Sweden's tenth straight year in the final four.
