CALGARY/ZURICH – Hockey Canada named a group of 45 players that will fight for roster spots in the 2011 IIHF World U20 Championship in Buffalo and Niagara, New York, while Switzerland tabbed Richard Jost its new U20 head coach.
Hockey Canada named four goalkeepers, 17 defencemen and 24 forwards for the national junior team evaluation camp in August in St. John’s. As per Hockey Canada’s policy, only players that attend the camp will be eligible to represent Canada at the World U20 Championship.
“There are a number of tremendously talented players across Canada in this age group, and the players named today will have a terrific opportunity to showcase their abilities against the best the country has to offer,” said head scout Al Murray. “We are looking forward to a very competitive, high-energy camp.”
The invitation list includes five players from Canada’s silver medal-winning team at the 2010 World Juniors in Saskatchewan: Jared Cowen, Calvin de Haan, Ryan Ellis, Taylor Hall and Brayden Schenn. The team will be coached by Dave Cameron (Mississauga, OHL).

Richard Jost new coach for Switzerland
The Swiss Ice Hockey Association announced on Wednesday that Richard Jost is the new head coach for the U20s. The 47-year-old replaces Jakob Kölliker, who was the U20 head coach for 11 years and had two fourth-place finishes, in 2002 and 2010, as the pinnacle of his era.
Jost has worked in Swiss youth hockey for many years both for the Swiss association and for club teams, most recently within the ZSC Lions Zurich organization. As a player he won championships with HC Davos and played at the 1982 World Juniors.
Alex Reinhard, the assistant coach of the SCL Tigers Langnau, and Sergio Soguel, who is the assistant coach of the GCK Lions in the B League, are the assistant coaches for the team.
