UFA – Switzerland’s forward Lukas Sieber has been suspended for one game in the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship. He will miss Monday’s game against the Czech Republic.

The infraction in Sunday’s game between Switzerland and Finland occurred at 1:49 of the third period in the neutral zone.

The Finnish defenceman Ville Pokka was in possession of the puck attempting to make an offensive play on the blue line when he was approached by Lukas Sieber.

The IIHF Disciplinary Panel determined upon review of the situation that Sieber made no intent to play the puck and delivered a body check with his shoulder to the head and neck area of Pokka.

Pokka fell to the ice appearing to be injured on the play and received medical attention from team staff on and off the ice. The penalty assessed to Sieber was a minor plus misconduct under rule 540a. It was noted that Pokka returned to play.

The Disciplinary Panel concluded that Sieber was in violation of rule 540a and was deemed to be careless and reckless and for this he has to be held accountable.

Based on the Referee Supervisor report, discussions with the game officials, the video material and the abovementioned facts and after consultation amongst the Disciplinary Panel, the Panel came to the unanimous decision that the action was of a dangerous nature to the safety of the player and that Lukas Sieber will be suspended for one game, today’s against the Czech Republic.
