MINSK – Pavel Perepekhin was named head coach of the U20 national team for another year.
The 35-year-old took over the team one year ago after having worked with the U20 and U18 national teams as an assistant coach. He is also coach of Shakhter Soligorsk in the second-tier league.
Belarus finished second behind Norway in the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division I Group A for the fifth consecutive time and thus missed the promotion to the top division.
In the upcoming season the U20 national team will participate in the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division I Group A Sanok, 15-21 December 2013, where it will play Latvia, Denmark, Slovenia, Austria and host Poland.
Vladimir Sinitsyn was named head coach of the U18 national team and replaces Mikhail Vasiliev, who resigned from his post after two years. Sinitsyn already coached the team in 2004 when it was relegated from the top division to Division I.
Belarus will play in the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division I Group A in Nice, France, 13-19 April 2014 against Latvia, Norway, Italy, France and Kazakhstan.
The Belarusian Ice Hockey Association also approved the entry of two foreign clubs in the second-tier Vysshaya Liga.
Lithuanian champion Energija Elektrenai will return to play with Belarusian teams. The team played in the former cross-border league EEHL with Belarusian teams until 2003 and in the Latvian league from 2003 until 2012. The league will also be joined by Ukrainian club HK Kremenchug, whose junior team has already successfully played in the Belarusian league.
