The Champions Hockey League completes its semi-final stage on January 7 (all starting times are listed CET). Both games will be broadcast live (see TV listings below) and will also be streamed live on www.championshockeyleague.com.
The two Champions Hockey League finalists will be know by Wednesday night. Salavat Yulayev Ufa (RUS) won the first semi-final game 2-1 against Metallurg in Magnitogorsk (RUS) while the ZSC Lions Zurich (SUI) won against the Espoo Blues (FIN) 6-3 on home ice. Both games were on December 10.
A tie will be enough for both Salavat and ZSC to qualify for the finals. In case of wins for Metallurg and Espoo, a shoot-out will decide the outcome. There will be no overtime.
Teams earned home ice advantage in the return game on January 7 due to their record in the CHL group stage.
Semi-final 2 – both games on January 7, 2009
Salavat Yulayev Ufa (RUS, 1W-0L) - Metallurg Magnitogorsk (RUS, 0W-1L) –16.00 (in Ufa)
Salavat is the favourite on home ice, after defeating Metallurg away 2-1 in the first semi-final on December 10.
If Salavat wins, they will also earn home ice advantage in the second game of the final. If Metallurg wins the semi-final, they will play the first final game in Magnitogorsk.
Espoo Blues (FIN, 0W-1L) - ZSC Lions Zurich (SUI, 1W-0L) –19.30 (in Espoo)
This long break might have been good for the Finnish team to get some of their injured players back.
To qualify for the final, the ZSC Lions need at least a tie in regulation. If Espoo wins after regulation, there will be a shoot-out.
