Young players from the Balkan region play a game in the first IIHF Balkan Hockey Development Camp.

BLED, Slovenia – The 2011 IIHF Balkan Hockey Development Camp was held in Bled with 72 participants from nine nations of the Balkan region in South-East Europe.

Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, FYR Macedonia, Greece, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey initiated a plan to work together more closely to promote hockey in the Balkan region, and the first step was the Hockey Development Camp for young athletes, coaches and officials that took place in Slovenia.

Each nation brought five players, a coach and an official to Bled for the camp and the participants were split between two teams for events on and off the ice.

The involved national associations hope to stage more events in the region to increase the popularity of ice hockey.
