Host Latvia kept their hope alive for first place and the promotion after an 8-2 win against Hungary.
The teams each had six points entering the game, but the fire power of the Latvians proved to be too much for Hungary.
Penalty trouble lead to the early 1-0 Hungary lead as Balint Magosi scored on a five-on-three chance. Latvia regained the lead with goals from Marcis Zembergs and Janis Straupe. The hosts the poured on the offense in the remaining 40 minutes, scoring six more goals.
The eight Latvian goals were scored by eight different players. Goalkeeper Nauris Enkuzens made 23 saves. The win sets up the possibility for promotion for Latvia in Tuesday's game against Belarus. Latvia must win in regulation to earn the gold medal.
