Italy's U20 squad celebrating the return to Division I

CANAZEI/TALLINN - Italy and Estonia won their respective groups of the IIHF World U20 Championship Division II to return directly to Division I. Italy finished with a perfect 15 points in five games, while Italy finished with 14.
The Italians never trailed in any game in their domination of Group A on home ice in Canazei. Japan was the only other contender for the promotion, but finished in second place after lowing against Italy, 5.1, on the opening day. Korea took third place. On the other end of the spectrum, it was Iceland getting relegated to Division III after winless in five games. The Division II title in Estonia came down to a battle between the hosts and Netherlands, who were both undefeated going into the final day. The game lived up expectations as it took penalty shots to determine the gold medalist. In the end, it was Estonia which earned the 3-2 win, the gold, and most importantly, the gold medal.  Estonian netminder Mark Rajevski made 56 saves as the Netherlands out-shot Estonia 58-30. Netherlands had to settle for silver, while Croatia took home the bronze. China finished winless and was relegated to Division III.
