Austrian chance against Italy at the Christmas Cup.

VELDEN, Austria - The women’s U18 tournament Christmas Cup at Lake Worthersee in Austria ended with a win for eastern neighbours Slovakia. The Slovaks won all their games against Italy (3-1), Austria (5-2) and the Netherlands (2-1).

The second-ranked Dutch caused the biggest problems for Slovakia on the last day. Jessie Tegelaar equalised at 39:17 the Slovakian lead by Nicol Cupkova (29:41). Maria Herichova scored the game-winner while 27 seconds left in the overtime to be top scorer of the tournament with her teammate Lenka Srokova (both scored two goals and two assists).

Four Women’s U18 teams who have not been qualified for the inaugural IIHF World Women’s U18 Championship in Calgary, Canada, from January 7 to 12, 2008, had the chance to show their skills in Velden am Worthersee.
