BARCELONA – The Spanish Ice Sports Federation has named 20 players to its roster for the 2010 IIHF World U20 Championship Division II Group A.

The U20 squad includes four athletes playing abroad. Alejandro Pedraz is expected to be the team leader in his fourth World U20 Championship – if he can play. He’s been playing in the youth organization of the Finnish club KalPa Kuopio for four years.

Last year he totaled 5 goals and 2 assist in 21 games in the second-tier U20 league. However, the native from San Sebastián currently is out with a shoulder injury.

Pedraz is not the only player from Finland on the roster. Carlos Quevedo will play in an IIHF event for the first time. The 16-year-old Puigcerdà native currently plays for Ilves Tampere in the highest U17 league. In two games he had two assists so far.

Two players will join the team from North America for the event. Goalkeeper Ignacio Martínez-Barona plays in St. Paul for the Highland Park Senior High School, and forward Pol González for the Toronto Jr. Canadiens.

Spain will play in the tournament in Debrecen, Hungary, December 13-19.

The team will be coached by the Swede Lars Lisspers, who was already behind Spain’s bench last spring at the 2009 World Championship Division II and the 2009 World U18 Championship Division II.

Most players come from SADH Majadahonda. The team from the Madrid region won the Spanish U20 championship just three weeks ago.
