ZURICH – The International Ice Hockey Federation set February 17 as the deadline to receive replies from Europe’s top-8 leagues with regards to the IIHF’s proposal for a re-launch of the Champions Hockey League for 2011-2012.
The IIHF has received the responses from the leagues and will use the upcoming days to assess the responses in order to evaluate if the re-launch for the next season is achievable.
“This is not a clear ‘yes’ or ‘no’ situation,” says Horst Lichtner, the IIHF’s General Secretary. “Several replies that we have received are basically positive to a re-launch, but they carry certain conditions and together with our board and our marketing partner we must carefully evaluate if those conditions can be met.”
The IIHF Council will convene on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week in Zurich and the federation’s executive body will take a decision on the Champions Hockey League at those meetings.
