ISTANBUL – The IIHF received four applications for the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. The teams for the Youth Olympic Winter Games and the venues of three more events in 2012 were announced at the Congress.
It was announced at the 2011 IIHF Semi-Annual Congress in Istanbul that Denmark (Copenhagen, Herning), France, Germany and Latvia (Riga) are applicants for the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. The Congress furthermore decided that the allocation voting for the 2017 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship will be postponed to the 2013 Annual Congress in Stockholm, Sweden.
The Congress approved the proposal from the Council to first evaluate the two co-hosted World Championships 2012 (Finland/Sweden) and 2013 (Sweden/Finland) before deciding whether any of the successful 2017 applicants can apply a co-hosting format. The three World Championships after 2013 will be hosted in Belarus (2014, Minsk), the Czech Republic (2015, Prague & Ostrava) and Russia (2016, Moscow & St. Petersburg).
At the Congress the IIHF also announced the teams and age groups for the inaugural Youth Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck and Seefeld, Austria, 12-22 January 2012.

2012 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship Division I Qualification
Venue: Asiago, Italy
Dates: 29 November-5 December 2011
Participants: France, Kazakhstan, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, China.
Note: Israel and Ireland have withdrawn from the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division III Group B in Erzurum, Turkey. The IIHF Council will decide how to organize qualification to Group A between the remaining participants, Turkey and Mongolia.
