The IIHF Asian Office has initiated a program to educate instructors for Coaching and Officiating systematically and continuously within the Asia 2022 Long-term Development Project. Last weekend the first regional Officiating Seminar took place in Malaysia.
Targeting the South-East Asian region a total of five instructors from Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore came together for three days in which practical teaching techniques, on-ice practice and IIHF Officiating standards were presented. Right after the seminar the Malaysian Ice Hockey Federation organised the Officiating seminar with guest game officials from Thailand and Singapore along with local Malaysian game officials.
The main goal of the regional programs is to work very close with the National Association Instructors who then take over the responsibility to educate the local game officials in their countries and according the IIHF Development Programs. After the seminar game officials are able to understand the basic skills and can implement them in games.
To be in accordance with Minimum Participation Standards and to compete in the IIHF World Championship Programs, every IIHF Member National Association is requested to fulfill certain requirements. One of these is to have a recognized and proper Officiating program.
After Thailand for Coaching and Malaysia for Officiating there are two more seminars coming up in China and which are open to attend for all Asian Countries.
