Coach Nolan nominates candidates for Sochi

RIGA – Latvian national team head coach Ted Nolan named 53 players as candidates for the men’s national team that will compete in the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

30 of the players come from the Russian-based Kontinental Hockey League including 21 from the Latvian KHL team Dinamo Riga. Three players have been under contract with NHL teams most recently including Boston Bruins forward Kaspars Daugavins and Buffalo Sabres prospect Zemgus Girgensons.

Nolan will have to name his team until the end of December. Prior to the Olympics the Latvians will play exhibition games in Sochi against Russia (8 Feb.) and Austria (10 Feb.).
