COLORADO SPRINGS, USA – David Lassonde, assistant men's ice hockey coach at the University of Denver, has been named an assistant coach for the U.S. National Junior Team that will compete at the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Dec. 26, 2012 to Jan. 5, 2013, in Ufa, Russia.

Lassonde's appointment completes the 2013 U.S. National Junior Team coaching staff that includes head coach Phil Housley, and assistant coaches Mark Osiecki and Grant Potulny.

Lassonde is in his 25th season as an NCAA Division I men's assistant coach including stops at Denver, (2011-present), the University of New Hampshire (1998-91/1997-2011); the University of Wisconsin (1991-94); and Miami University (1994-97).

A former goaltender at Providence College (1981-83), Lassonde was honored with the Terry Flanagan Award in 2007, which is given by the American Hockey Coaches Association to an assistant coach who has demonstrated a superior body of work throughout his career.

Active in USA Hockey circles, Lassonde serves as a mentor in the Warren Strelow National Goaltending Mentor Program, was an assistant coach for the U.S. Under-18 Select Team at the 2005 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament and has also coached at a variety of district and national festivals.

The 2013 U.S. National Junior Team will be selected in late December following a pre-tournament camp from Dec. 19-23 to be held in Helsinki, Finland.
