Tre Kronor goalie won Worlds and World U20 gold

LEKSAND, Sweden – Former Swedish national team goaltender Peter Åslin passed away on Thursday, 19 January in Leksand after having suffered multiple strokes. He was 49.

Åslin started his international career by winning the IIHF World U20 Championship in 1981, which was Sweden’s lone World Junior gold for 31 years until the win in Calgary on January 5 this year.

Åslin, who won three Swedish championships (two with AIK Stockholm, 1982, 1984 and one with HV71 Jönköping, 1995), medalled in each of the four men’s IIHF World Championships he participated in; gold medal in 1992 in Prague and three silver medals, in 1986, ‘90 and ‘93. Åslin won an Olympic bronze medal in Calgary 1988. He played 91 national team games for Sweden.
