Host Canadians show pride en route to win over Sweden

SCOTIABANK PLACE - Canada has done it. By defeating Sweden 5-1 in Ottawa on Monday night, the host nation has won gold for the fifth straight year, a level of success matched only by Canada from 1993 to 1997.

OTTAWA - The IIHF announced the Best Player Awards and Media All-Star Team for the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship during the Canada-Sweden gold medal game. John Tavares was named tournament MVP.

OTTAWA – After Monday's bronze medal game, IIHF President René Fasel and Hockey Canada President Bob Nicholson held a joint press conference at Scotiabank Place.

Canada's gold medal victory at the World Junior Championship on Monday has made ratings history for TSN as the most-watched broadcast of all time on the network.
SCOTIABANK PLACE – Russia beat Slovakia 5-2 as skill trumped desire in the battle for third place. It was Russia's second straight World Junior bronze and fifth consecutive medal since 2005.
Ottawa 2009 is fourth-best attended event in IIHF history
OTTAWA - Organizers announced the 2009 event in Ottawa will draw a record attendance of 453,282, smashing the previous mark of 325,138 set by the city of Vancouver in 2006.
