VIENNA – The Austrian Ice Hockey Federation announced that Jason O’Leary and Dieter Kalt will coach the Austrian U20 national team.

The team will have a young coaching staff for the 2012/2013 season. O’Leary, 34, was the head coach of the U18 national team last season. The Canadian is also coaching the Lower Austria Stars from St. Pölten in the Austrian junior league EBYSL.

Kalt, 38, moves from the ice to behind the bench one week after announcing the end of his career as a player. He was named assistant coach for the U20 national team.

The Klagenfurt native brings with him vast international experience. He represented Austria in 15 IIHF World Championships and in three Olympic Winter Games.

“His immense international experience and knowledge from these tournaments speak for itself,” O’Leary said. “His professional attitude towards hockey and his willingness to win have to rub off on the team.”

“Personally I want to learn and my main task is to support Jason as well as possible,” Kalt said. “I had been a national player for 20 years and I’m happy and honoured that I can pay something back to the federation.”

The Austrian U20 national team will play a four nations tournament on home ice in Telfs in November before participating at the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division I Group A in Amiens, France, 9-15 December 2012, where they will face Denmark, Belarus, Norway, Slovenia and France. The tournament winner will be promoted to the Top Division.
