CALGARY – Benoit Groulx stepped down from his position as head coach of Canada’s U20 national team after signing with the AHL’s Rochester Americans.

Groulx was named coach of the U20 national team in June as successor of Craig Hartsburg, who is now the head coach of the Ottawa Senators.

Hockey Canada and the Canadian Hockey League, through the program of excellence policy committee, will now undertake the process of finding a replacement for Groulx.

Canada will host the 2009 IIHF World U20 Championship from December 26, 2008, to January 5, 2009, in Ottawa.
