Former Ukrainian national team forward Alexander Materukhin has changed his nationality and will be eligible to represent his new country Belarus.

The 36-year-old forward has represented Ukraine in eight IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship tournaments between 2006 and 2014 including two in the top division under his Ukrainian name Olexander Materukhin.

Materukhin played his club hockey in Belarus between 2005 and 2011 and again since 2013 and hasn’t represented Ukraine in an IIHF tournament for more than four years and was thus able to request a one-time change of nationality in IIHF tournaments.

Materukhin is currently preparing with the Belarusian national team for the upcoming 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Denmark.
