The game schedule for the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ostrava and Trinec, Czech Republic, has been released. Tickets will go on sale in late April.

The World Juniors return to the Czech Republic for the first time since 2008 and the host nation will open the tournament on 26th December 2019 at Ostravar Arena against recent bronze medallist Russia. Canada and the United States will play the evening game in Ostrava while the promoted German team will open Group B play at the arena the following day against the U.S.

Group A at Werk Arena in Trinec starts with recent semi-finalist Switzerland playing Kazakhstan before another neighbouring rivalry in the evening when defending champion Finland will play archrival Sweden. Slovakia, the virtual home team in Trinec with the Czech-Slovak border being just 10 kilometres away, will open its preliminary-round campaign the day after against Kazakhstan.

The five teams in each group will play their preliminary-round games in Ostrava and Trinec from 26 to 31 December 2019. The preliminary round will culminate with the Canada vs. Czech Republic game on New Year’s Eve.

After a day off on New Year’s Day the quarter-finals will be played on 2nd January 2020 in Ostrava and Trinec. If qualified, the Czechs will play the evening game in Ostrava, otherwise the top-ranked teams will normally stay at their venue for the quarter-finals.

All games of the semi-finals on 4th January 2020, the medal games on 5th January 2020 and the relegation round will be played in Ostrava.

The ticket sale is expected to start in late April. More details on the ticket sale will be announced on the official website 2020.worldjuniors.hockey in the upcoming weeks. Visit the website, available in English and Czech, to find out more about the event and the venues.
