FAQ

Is there a minimum amount of work days?
The minimum is 5 days (volunteers who can serve for a longer period will be prioritized).
 
In addition, the following is required:
•    Participation at the kick-off day (date will be communicated beginning of 2020)
•    Participation at the briefing/schooling (if required and depending on the resort)
•    Required language skills: German and/or French – An advantage: English
•    Ice Hockey know-how or in the resort
•    Know-how at sport events or other events

What is the minimum age requirement to participate as a volunteer during the 2020 IIHF WM?
The minimum age is 18 years-old (as of April 1st, 2020). 

Are there any accommodation possibilities offered through the OC during the WM?
The OC cannot offer accommodation free of charge during the 2020 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. Therefore, we ask the volunteers to organize accommodation on their own. 

Is it possible to register as a volunteer with a non-Swiss residency?
Yes. Just be aware that you are responsible for covering your travel and accommodation. Furthermore, it is required that you either speak French and/or German (English is a plus). 

Is it necessary to register on the Swiss Volunteers-Platform to work as a Volunteer?
Due to several reasons we can only accept volunteers, who have registered on the Swiss Volunteers- Platform. We coordinate all work shifts and other details on the platform. It is also the best way to avoid any mistakes or misunderstandings. Furthermore, we can guarantee best information service over the platform.

Are there parking spots available on-site?
We ask the volunteers to use the public transport as the parking spots in the area are limited. The OC will try their best to have public transport, in proximity of the arenas, inclusive in the accreditation. Further details will follow prior to the start of the WM.  

What if I am unable to be present during my volunteer shift and must cancel my shift at short notice? 
In case of a short-term prevention (illness or other reasons) the Volunteer Operations Center should be informed as early as possible so that a replacement can be found in good time. In principle, the punctual arrival of a volunteer is expected when registering.

Do volunteers receive game tickets?
The OC will try their best to allow volunteers, to experience the game atmosphere, live in the arena. We will provide further details prior to the WM.

Is the volunteer insured during the WM? 
All volunteers must have an insurance. All volunteers are insured by the OC 2020 IIHF WM against third party liability.

When is the start date for volunteers and is it required to be available every day?
We do require the support of some volunteers during the construction and dismantling phase, but this depends on the chosen resort. It is important to note that a minimum amount of 5 days is required to be chosen as a volunteer (longer periods are preferred).

What kind of uniforms needs to be worn by the volunteers during the 2020 IIHF WM?
Each volunteer receives the official volunteer-uniform prior to the first day of work. The official uniform must be worn during all work days. The final uniform guidelines will be communicated prior to the start of the 2020 IIHF WM.

When will be the volunteers be informed, if they have been chosen to volunteer at the 2020 IIHF WM?
Volunteers will be informed latest by end of January 2020, if they have been chosen to volunteer at the 2020 IIHF WM. The work shifts will be available on the Swiss Volunteers-Platform by mid-March 2020.
We try our best to consider all registrations.

What shall further be taken into account?
  • Narcotics: The consumption of alcohol and other narcotics is prohibited during operations. Smoking must be restricted to breaks from work.
  • Accreditation: The accreditation must be visible during the full period of the work shift. The accreditation is personalized and is not transferable. Misuse of the accreditation leads to immediate withdrawal and exclusion from any volunteer activity. The entrance to any accreditation zone is only permitted during work shifts. During free time or during any days off, the volunteers are not allowed to spend their time in the arena. The accreditation is not a game ticket, it is a work pass, which does not permit for any seat or standing spot in the arena during a game. 
  • Dealing with official participants: All volunteers must respect all official tournament participants, especially players and staff members, but also VIPs or officials. Apart from work-related interaction, selfies or autograph requests with the above-mentioned participants must be avoided during work shifts and in volunteer uniform. Privacy must be respected. 
  • Appearance: In order to present a positive image of the 2020 IIHF WM, we ask all volunteers to appear well-groomed and friendly towards visitors and guests. 
  • Mobile Phone usage: The private usage of the mobile phones should be limited to a minimum during the work shifts.
  • Social Media: It is not allowed to publish any pictures or videos of the event, nor of VIPs and/or officials participants.
