The German Ice Hockey Association has named Thomas Schadler as new head coach of the German women’s national team that will compete at the 2021 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship in late August in Canada.

Schadler was signed for the new season to replace Christian Kunast, who has moved from behind the bench to serve as sports director for the organization. Franziska Busch, who was the interim head coach, will continue her work with the U18 women’s national team.

Schadler, 53, had previously been involved in coaching U16 to U18 men’s national teams for the German Ice Hockey Association including several IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship participations.

The German women’s national team will soon have important months ahead as it will not only play at the Women’s Worlds in less than three months but also in the Final Olympic Qualification in November 2021 to battle for a ticket to Beijing 2022.
