Göran Strand arrived at the Helsinki Ice Hall media centre to be interviewed by the volunteer media team of the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. He showed up with a wide smile on his face and a backpack full of photographing equipment and experience. Göran spreads the joy of the World Championship tournament through his camera lens - while enjoying the experience himself.

We interviewed Göran regarding his work and experience at the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.

How did you end up working here at the World Championship?

I started working for Infront in 2014 doing commercial shots in biathlon. Since then, my field of work has expanded to many other sports, mostly winter sports. This is my second World Championship tournament, it's really fun.

What kind of an experience is the tournament for you?

Ice hockey is one of my favourite sports, both sports- and photographer wise. It's really nice when you get to walk around the arena and get to see the sports from so many different angles. Being here and working with ice hockey is so much fun!

Describe your job here more specifically.

I help Infront out with commercial shots, so a lot of pictures of Skoda and Tissot and other big brands for instance. Besides the sponsors, I also document the atmosphere and the fans. That's typically what I do! Lots of behind the scenes and stuff like that.

What's the best thing about your job here?

It's meeting new people! I enjoy having to chat to people to find my way around the arena and to meet happy fans.

What about the most difficult part of your job?

Oof, tough question. It could be, when it's really crowded, and it complicates your work. I remember one time when I was shooting the Champions Hockey League final and the fans were just crazy, it was almost impossible to work! Even though it's the downside, you have to keep in mind that the fans are important!

How do you like staying in Finland for the tournament?

I like it a lot, since Finland and Sweden are so similar, being here almost feels like being at home! I'm from the Northern part of Sweden so the nature and the people resemble the nature and the people we have back home.

And finally, a prediction, who is taking home the gold?

The dream final would of course be Sweden against Finland! My heart says Sweden, but for my job and the fans here it would be great if Finland won!
