Volunteers get rewarded every day in the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.

Nokia Arena was full of heat when the semi-finals took place on Saturday in Tampere, Finland.

In both games volunteers got rewarded again. Rewards went to Laura Sulonen from VIP Services and Tuomas Lahti from Transportation Services.

Both were rewarded with a Miracleo mascot and a Volunteer of the Game recognition.

In the first game Finland – USA the reward went to Laura Sulonen. Laura has recently moved to Tampere and she was interested to experience her new home town’s international event. Laura works within events, and she is excited of the work. “These kind of situations always sets one on fire,” says Laura.

Best in VIP Services according to Laura is that you are able to meet new people and interact with them. Laura says that her attitude is ”This is fun”, so she has not experienced any problems. She concentrates to enjoy the fullest.

Work shift here in Nokia Arena in 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships starts by ensuring everything is OK in the skyboxes. Laura’s work is well done when she is “invisible”. One must follow up the situation all the time. “It’s been nice to make this event happen together with all the other volunteers.”

In the second game between Canada and Czechia Tuomas Lahti from Transportation Services got rewarded.

Tuomas is originally from Kokkola, but has lived almost all his life in Tampere. Tuomas has been a volunteer also in 2012 and in 2013 tournaments when those were hosted by Finland and Sweden. Earlier experience in volunteering and love for ice hockey made him apply again.

Transportation Services is all about driving official tournament participants from hotels to Nokia Arena and back and managing trips. When I ask from Tuomas what is the most unforgettable moment in the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, he takes a moment and answers: “Everything has been really fun, but perhaps that when in late evening hours driving players and their coaches, and seeing their enjoyment, and them giving thanks to me of the work I am doing.”

“Best is to meet people, being in the core of everything,” says Tuomas.

The 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship will be arranged again next year here in Tampere. When I ask Tuomas is he going to apply as a volunteer again, he says: “Yes, absolutely!” As a greeting to all volunteers he says: ”Enjoy, and apply again next year!”
