Preparations for the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship are progressing at a rapid pace, and now you can also step aboard the “We live the game” -tram in Tampere.

The 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is less than two months away, and preparations are in full speed both in the arenas and the host cities, Riga and Tampere.

To attract more attention and get fans fire up, both cities have dressed up city trams in the tournament look and feel. In Riga, the tram took the streets in November-December. In Tampere, the tram premiered in March.

At the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, one of the values is sustainability, and public transport is always the recommended form of mobility. In Tampere, fans can even use public transport free of charge with a game ticket.

A sticky situation
Covering the tram in the tournament look is a meticulous task that requires the work of several people.
For example in Tampere, the taping of the “We live the game” -tram took  two days, with a total of five employees.

Some  of the tram designers took care of the tiny details, while others took care of the larger lines.
The process starts with over 100 pieces, from which large and small surfaces are cut. These form a large entity, and it is all done by hand.

The 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship tram operates two different routes in Tampere throughout the spring and during the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship tournament.
