It came down to one final game, with everything on the line between Ritten Buam, the host Italian team, and Acroni Jesenice of Slovenia in Group C of the Continental Cup.

Entering their final round-robin games on Sunday, the two teams were each 2-0, meaning the winner of the final game would move on in the club championship tournament. And what a final game it was, with the teams battling hard to a 3-3 tie after 40 minutes before Kevin Fink scored the go ahead goal to give Ritten a 4-3 lead midway through the third.

Ritten would add an insurance goal at 18:06 to win 5-3, finish atop Group C at 3-0 and move on to the next round of the Continental Cup, which takes place 15-17 November.

Diego Cuglietta, who scored the fifth goal for Ritten in Sunday’s final game, led the tournament in scoring with seven points (including four goals) in three games. Erik Svetina of Acroni Jesenice was second in stats with six points and another Ritten player – Ethan Szypula – also had a strong tournament with six points.

KHL Sisak (Croatia) finished third in the tournament and Sokil Kyiv (Ukraine) was fourth. As the Group C champion, Ritten will move on to Group E (15-17 November), where it will face Arlan Kokshetau (Kazakhstan), Cardiff Devils (Welsh based team that plays in UK), VLCI Zilina (Slovakia).

Group D

Brasov, ROMANIA – CSM Corona Brasov (Romania) has advanced out of Group D of the Continental Cup, following a tremendously-close round-robin at the Olympic Ice Rink. The local club thrilled fans with a pair of overtime wins over Mogo Riga (Latvia) and Ferencvarosi TC (Hungary).

Those wins set the stage for a Super Sunday at the Continental Cup, with three teams vying for first place and a berth in the next stage of the tournament. First, Riga topped Ferencvaros 5-2 to move into a temporary spot atop the standings but Riga would need some help to retain that position in the form of a Brasov loss.

The help wouldn’t come, however, as Brasov won the final game of the round-robin by a 6-3 score over Energija Elektrenai (Lithuania). Both Brasov and Riga finished with seven points but Brasov earned the tiebreaker thanks to the aforementioned 4-3 overtime victory over Riga earlier in the event.

Yevgeni Skachkov led his team and the tournament in scoring with five goals and two assists for seven points in three games. Albert Zagidullin also had a strong event for Brasov with five points, including two goals.
Ferencvarosi TC (Hungary) finished third in Group D and Energija Elektrenai (Lithuania) was fourth.

CSM Corona Brasov now moves onto Group F (15-17 November), where it will face Aalborg Pirates (Denmark), GKS Katowice (Poland), Bruleurs De Loups (France). The winners of E and F, along with runners up of E and F, play in the Continental Cup final, 16-19 January 2025.
