Tickets on sale for the biggest sporting event of the year in Romania

Over 20.000 spectators are expected in Sfântu Gheorghe for the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division I, Group A

On February 12, at 5:00 PM (EET), ticket sales for the Ice Hockey World Championship Division I, Group A will begin. The tournament will take place from April 27 to May 3 at Sepsi Arena in Sfântu Gheorghe. National teams from Great Britain, Poland, Japan, Italy, Romania and Ukraine will participate, competing in a total of 15 games. The stakes are high, as the top two teams will be promoted to the 2026 IIHF WM, while the last-ranked team will be relegated to Division I, Group B.

"We have strengthened Romania's relationship with the International Ice Hockey Federation, with whom we currently have a very good collaboration. The Ice Hockey World Championship, Division I, Group A is the biggest sporting event of the year in the country, providing a fantastic opportunity to promote this sport. Ice hockey is not just a sport; it is a way of life. Our goal is to attract as many young people as possible to ice hockey, and clubs play a crucial role in its development. Internationally, we aim for Romanian ice hockey to stay as close as possible to the top 20 teams in the world," said Nagy Attila-Ferenc, President of the Romanian Ice Hockey Federation (FRHG), during a press conference marking the start of ticket sales for the event in Sfântu Gheorghe.

Two Types of Season Tickets; Single Ticket Sales Start in March

In the first phase of sales, two types of season tickets will be available on IIHF event website: https://www.iihf.com/en/events/2025/wmia – Category I – 500 RON, Category II – 350 RON. In the next phase, starting in March, individual tickets will be available for purchase: 100 RON for each Romania match and 25 RON for all other games. Organizers will reserve sections behind both goals for supporters of the teams from Great Britain, Poland, Italy, Ukraine, and Japan, while the Romanian Ice Hockey Federation (FRHG) will provide additional information to the federations of the participating countries. Foreign supporters can purchase a special season ticket covering all five matches of their favorite team for 400 RON. A portion of the stands behind the team benches will be reserved for the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and sponsors. It is important to note that each person can purchase a maximum of five season tickets per transaction!

Up to 20,000 Spectators Expected Over Five Days of Competition

Organizers have structured the ticketing system to ensure that everyone interested has the opportunity to attend the Ice Hockey World Championship, Division I, Group A in Sfântu Gheorghe, experience the excitement of hockey, and enjoy the festive atmosphere in the stands and fan areas. An estimated 20,000 spectators are expected for the 15 matches, with 2,000 seats available per game through individual tickets or season passes.
"The Ice Hockey World Championship. Division I, Group A is being held at Sepsi Arena. Sepsi Arena is a multifunctional venue that hosts basketball, handball, and futsal matches, gymnastics competitions, the SepsiBook book fair, and now a major hockey event. This is a great opportunity for the development of hockey in Covasna County and for supporting young talents. In December, we inaugurated the new ice rink with a gala show. Since then, we have organized the Romanian Cup final and two friendly matches between Romania and Ukraine. Currently, preparations for the Ice Hockey World Championship, Division I, Group A are in full swing, and we are working hard to ensure everything is ready for the first match," said Ervin Miklós, a member of the FRHG Federal Bureau.

700,000 Euro Budget

The budget for the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, Division I, Group A is 700,000 euros. "Funding comes from multiple sources. One-third is covered by the International Ice Hockey Federation, another third by local authorities, while the remaining amount comes from the National Sports Agency, ticket sales, and sponsors," explained Árpád Csaba Benedek, Secretary General of FRHG.
