Johnny Baumann, a longtime leader in Swiss ice hockey and an IIHF Honorary Member, has passed away. The former IIHF Auditor was 89.
He was born in Martigny, Switzerland and made a lasting impact in hockey in the canton of Valais. He served as the secretary of HC Martigny beginning in 1952 and later became the club’s president (1977-83).
Baumann also became the president of the ice hockey league of French-speaking Switzerland (1987-94) and then the vice-president of the Swiss league (1994-98). In 1998, he was elected as an IIHF Auditor, and served on the IIHF Audit Committee (2008-12).

In addition, Baumann is the father of Nicolas Baumann, who completed his playing career with HC Verbier-Sembrancher in 2002-03, and the grandfather of Vincent Guex, who played with HC Monthey-Chablais in 2022-23
In recognition of his services to the global ice hockey family, Baumann was named an IIHF Honorary Member in Tokyo in 2012.
