Opening ceremony before the first evening game at 20:00; spectators in the Official Fan Zone can expect accompanying and cultural program

It all kicks off in a week. Preparations for the 87th IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship are reaching their peak, with construction in and around the Prague Arena in full swing. In the immediate vicinity, an Official Fan Zone for nearly 7,000 spectators will be set up.

Singer Lenny and her hit "Hello" accompanying the entire 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship

Singer Lenny will take care of the unofficial song of the 2024 IIHF WM. "From experience, we know that official songs have a tough life and often fall into oblivion. That's why we wanted to connect the Ice Hockey World Championship with a song that fans know," says the president of the 2024 IIHF WM LOC Prague Petr Bříza. The European hit "Hello" will not only be part of the opening ceremony but will also tune fans in the arenas before the start of each game. "We are thrilled that Lenny embraced our idea, lent her hit, and adapted it to the hockey environment. The song 'Hello' will be played in both arenas before each game at the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship," adds Petr Bříza.

Opening ceremony on Friday 10 May at 20:00 CET

The official start of the 2024 IIHF WM, full of the ice hockey history and emotions, will take place 20 minutes before the start of the evening game between Czechia and Finland, in Ostrava before the duel between Slovakia and the United States. "The first part of the opening ceremony consists of a clip accompanied by the voice of world-respected commentator Gord Miller and deals with how ice hockey has evolved over its 150 years of existence. However, one thing remains unchanged throughout this winter sport period – the passion and love of players and fans, as confirmed by the 2024 IIHF WM claim "Heart of the game," outlines Petr Bříza the opening ceremony. Fans will see this clip before each game throughout the entire Ice Hockey World Championship in both arenas. The second part is formed by the aforementioned singer Lenny and her song Hello modified for the hockey environment. "And of course, we must not forget about the official mascots Bob and Bobek, which will appear with a special guest. Finally, as in every IIHF WM, there is the presentation of all teams and the national anthem," outlined the third part by the director of the marketing department, Martin Pešta, who also recommends to all fans: "We urge fans to arrive at the arena on time and be ready for a great spectacle at 20:00 CET."

To maximize the experience, organizers have installed a rich set of lighting effects. "We have supplemented these with unique kinetic lights, which will enhance the atmosphere and depict action on the ice, multimedia cubes, chest plates, graphic carriers, and in the stands. Fans can thus look forward to great entertainment and breath-taking scenes in both arenas," adds Martin Pešta.

Official Fan Zones next to the arenas for thousands of spectators

Next to both arenas, two Official Fan Zones will be set up. The 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is always associated with a unique friendly atmosphere, where thousands of fans mingle in a calm and friendly spirit, and organizers aim to achieve this again this year. "From the beginning of the preparations, the organizing committee has worked with the concept to ensure that visitors in both Official Fan Zones have fun, get tuned into the games, and enjoy the atmosphere of the 2024 IIHF WM," says Petr Bříza, president of the Prague organizing committee for the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. In Prague, spectators can look forward to the Official Fan Zone covering an area of 8,400m2 with a capacity of just under 7,000 seats, while in the Moravian-Silesian metropolis, it will span 7,000m2 for 5,000 fans. On large screens, attractive games including games of the Czech national team will be broadcast in both cities every day.

Cultural program in the Official Fan Zone complemented by activations and competitions

The opening hours of the Official Fan Zone will be from 14:00 until the end of the evening game, in the case of a three-game day, from 11:00. On Saturday 25 May, the gates for the semi-final games will open at noon 12:00, and on the final day, Sunday 26 May, it will be possible to arrive at 13:00. Entry is free for all visitors.

Before or between games, a cultural program and DJ performances are prepared to get everyone tuned into the hockey games. Specifically in the Official Fan Zone, artists such as Drum For Fun, Poletíme?, Eddie Stoilow, Pilot, Metallica Beroun, Nonalis, DJ Roxtar, Portless, V II TO, Jamaron, Sqost, ABBA World Revival, Jen Music, Vanua2, SNBM, All Right Band, DJ Danda, Rammstein Tribute Show, Red Hot Chilli Peppers Revival, Saxofrancis, and The Rockset – World Roxette Tribute Band will perform. The program will also include meetings with ice hockey legends or a show by the official mascots Bob and Bobek.

"In addition, visitors can look forward to a large exhibition by the Official Main Sponsor Skoda, other activities from Official Sponsors and Official Partners, or they can purchase fan merchandise at the official merchandising shop," concludes Martin Pešta.
In addition to activities by the Official Main Sponsor Skoda, fans will be entertained by Official Sponsors Raiffeisen and Tipsport as well as Official Partners Coca Cola, Notino, PLYRS and Samsung.

The Official Fan Zone will operate on a cashless system, and it will not be possible to pay with cash. Organizers recommend that visitors check that they have a credit or debit card with them before visiting.

In the Fan Zones excellent Czech Beer on Tap

For this year's 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, Pilsner Urquell has become an Official Partner, and visitors will enjoy it during their stay in both Official Fan Zones in Prague and Ostrava. "Our discussions about a specific brand logically led to Pilsner Urquell because it is a long-term partner of the Czech Ice Hockey Association. We thank the management of Plzeňský Prazdroj for reaching an agreement together, allowing us to serve Pilsner Urquell in the Official Fan Zones," says Petr Bříza.

Pilsner Urquell will offer all ice hockey fans an environment in the form of large-capacity tents, the interior of which will be arranged so that fans inside feel like they're in a large "Pilsner pub." "Visitors from all over the world will enjoy draft Pilsner served by finalists of the Master Bartender competition, try their hand at tapping school or pub quizzes, and a variety of other activities," introduces the concept Ladislav Kolář, National Sponsoring Manager of Plzeňský Prazdroj.

In both Official Fan Zones, fans will pay 110 CZK for a half-litre. "The final amount resulted from careful analysis of similar peak events in the Czech Republic and abroad. The price is commensurate with the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship," explains the president of the 2024 IIHF WM LOC Prague.
