With just over a week left until the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship, the event preparations are well underway.

On April 14, the volunteers attended the orientation event “Volunteer Kick-off" in Espoo. There, they got to meet their future team members, see their work locations, and received information from the event organizers about volunteer matters, safety, and regarding the event itself.

About 400 volunteers were selected for the event, with 49.9% of them being newcomers. Volunteers were chosen for various roles, including construction, event support services, customer and VIP services, competition organization, event entertainment, communication and media services, as well as safety and transportation services.

Elsa Orrain and Roosa Männistö, who got acquainted at the Kick-off event, both found their place in the tournament support services department. While it's their first-time volunteering in ice hockey, Elsa and Roosa are heading to the championship with a positive attitude and excitement ahead of the start of the tournament.

The newcomers found the Kick-off event beneficial. According to Roosa, the figures presented at the Kick-off helped realize the magnitude of the event. Elsa and Roosa are going to the championship sharp, enthusiastic, and in a friendly spirit.
