The 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Women’s Championship Disciplinary Panel has issued a one (1) game suspension to Sweden’s HJALMARSSON, Sara (#19) for violating Official Playing Rule 59 (Cross-Checking).
The Incidents occurred at 31:15 in the 2nd period of Game #15 (GER v. SWE) of the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship on 08.04.2024.

Official Playing Rule 59 (Cross-Checking): Based on all facts ascertained, the Championship Disciplinary Panel determined that, and while acknowledging that the moment was extremely tense and emotions were extremely high from both the SWE and the GER team, the Player intentionally lifted her stick while both of her hands were on her stick and directed a check to the neck area of Germany’s Bottof Tavea, number 21. With this action, the Player placed the German Player in an extremely dangerous and risky situation of injury, and as a result, violated Official Playing Rule 59 (Cross-Checking). The Player’s motion of pushing her stick straight into the neck area of the German Player was reckless and cannot be tolerated.

The Championship Disciplinary Panel decided that because the Player violated Official Playing Rule 59 (Cross-Checking), she shall be sanctioned as follows:

  • Suspension for one game.

Due to the suspension, the Player will miss Sweden’s Quarter Final Game on 11 April 2024 of the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship.
