Quarter-finals set

One year ago Canada beat Finland 4-2 in the preliminary round of the World Juniors.

With the end of the preliminary round the quarter-final pairings of the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship are set. The top-two ranked teams of each group stay at their venue after their successful campaign and Canada as host country chose to play the early game in Vancouver.

The tournament continues on 2nd January 2019 with the following pairings:
  • Sweden vs. Switzerland (13:00 PST in Victoria)
  • Canada vs. Finland (15:30 PST in Vancouver)
  • USA vs. Czech Republic (17:00 PST in Victoria)
  • Russia vs. Slovakia (19:30 PST in Vancouver)
The semi-finals will be played on 4th January 2019 with the following pairings:
  • Russia/Slovakia vs. USA/Czech Republic
  • Sweden/Switzerland vs. Canada/Finland
(Time slots to be defined. If Canada plays in the semi-finals, it will play the late game.)

The gold and bronze medal games will be played the day after on 5th January 2019.

The bottom-ranked teams Kazakhstan and Denmark will play a best-of-three relegation round. The loser will be relegated and be replaced by Germany in the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Kazakhstan vs. Denmark, 2 Jan. 11:00 PST
Denmark vs. Kazakhstan, 4 Jan. 9:00 PST
Kazakhstan vs. Denmark, 5 Jan. 9:00 PST (only played if necessary)
