We also took into account the long-term performance and success of each team as well as the importance of the playoff stage of the tournament in each category.”

“The IIHF World Junior Championship is one of the most watched tournaments. We hope that it will be interesting in the Czech Republic as well and that many hockey fans have already started planning how they will spend their Christmas holidays in the arenas of Moravian-Silesian Region. We believe that with the set pricing policy, fans will come out in great numbers,” added Martin Urban.
The IIHF World Junior Championship have been held in the Czech Republic three times and returns after twelve years. The city of Ostrava will co-host this event for the second time.
“Hockey has a tradition in the Moravian-Silesian Region. In addition to the regional city, it offers quality games, a great hockey atmosphere and a quality setting in Trinec. Thanks to these attributes, we are hosting this hockey championship featuring players who are still only juniors, but among them will be future stars of the hockey world. The fans in Ostrava and Trinec might be seeing the future Crosby, Ovechkin, Jagr or Lemieux. The IIHF World Junior Championship is returning to the Moravian-Silesian Region after 25 years. I believe that this important sporting event will draw attention to the prestige of our region,” said Ivo Vondrak, Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region.
“This championship is one of the most prestigious hockey tournaments in the world. For scouts and team leaders from the NHL, it is even more important than the senior World Championship. In this tournament, they are looking for talent and the IIHF World Junior Championship has in many cases triggered the careers of the biggest stars in hockey. Ostrava will become the centre of the hockey world at the turn of the year. I am pleased that the organizers chose Ostrava as a venue of the championship. This is the way in which we have made use of the experience when we were able to prepare events at the highest level. One of the important points is the accommodation capacity that Ostrava has at the appropriate level. I expect many visitors. I believe that the fans will see excellent hockey and the players will become role models for children and influence them to participate in sports,” said Tomas Macura, Mayor of Ostrava.
“Trinec and sport have been inseparable for decades. Trinec lives through sports, the people of Trinec are unique fans and I believe that will create a great atmosphere in Werk Arena, as well as they do for our home professional team, Ocelari. The IIHF World Junior Championship is the most important sporting event in the history of Trinec. It is a great honour for us and also a challenge to prove that we truly deserve to be a hockey city,” said Vera Palkovska, Mayor of Trinec.
"We are honoured to be able to host future world ice hockey stars in our Werk Arena. For fans in Trinec, this tournament will be a great experience.
