Istanbul is currently hosting the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division III Group A (click here for the tournament page with more information and a live stream) and in two months the Turkish metropolis will be ready to host another junior hockey festival, this time with female player.

Istanbul will host the 2022 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship Division II with ten teams at two ice sheets at the Zeytinburnu Ice Rink.

The tournament is the last of the women’s U18 and men’s U20 tournaments that couldn’t be played in January due to Covid and found its new dates following discussions with the hosts and the participating teams. It will be held from 27 June to 7 July 2022.

The Division II has ten teams entered and will be played in two horizontal groups of five team each with the game schedule to be established with all involved stakeholders. Australia and New Zealand, which had previously withdrawn due to Covid, will be eligible to return to the event.

The tournament is currently foreseen in two groups:
  • Group A: Great Britain (1), Spain (4), Kazakhstan (5), New Zealand (8), Latvia (9).
  • Group B: Netherlands (2), Australia (3), Turkey (6), Mexico (7), Iceland (10).
The U18 Women’s World Championship program was last time played in 2020 and will be a comeback for most of these countries after a one-year break. For two countries it’s a debut: Latvia and Iceland will participate with an U18 women’s national team for the first time.

The tournament is planned with a preliminary-round followed by quarter-finals, semi-finals, medal and placement games.
