Alena Mills has been suspended by the IIHF Independent Disciplinary Panel at the 2023 IIHF Women’s World Championship following an incident in Friday’s game between Canada and Czechia.

At 49:01 in the 3rd period, Czech player Alena Mills was assessed a 2min penalty for an illegal check to the head and neck area. The player, while chasing and attempting to gain control of the puck, recklessly endangered her opponent, Canadian player Laura Stacey, by directing her shoulder into the head, which then continued to roll off the Players’ shoulder over her back in the flow of the check, and thereby violated Official Playing Rule 48.

Mills was issued a one-game suspension, namely Sunday’s game of her team against the United States.
