There is something special about Ostersund. The contrast between city and mountains makes the city a unique and magnificent winter destination.

We in Ostersund are very keen on outdoor life and it is easy to try out our winter activities. But Ostersund is also filled with great shopping and cosy inner courtyards with cafés and restaurants. Our city is appointed Creative City of Gastronomy by UNESCO. Make sure to try out local fish, cheese, moose- and reindeer meat and bring home some tasteful memories.

Jamtli Museum offers an exciting journey through the history of Jämtland. Permanent exhibitions show for example the Viking Age and the Sami culture side by side with contemporary exhibitions.  The museum´s main attraction is the 1000 year old Överhogdal tapestries – the oldest pictorial tapestries in Europe. The Swedish National Museum has a branch here and the current exhibition “Ideal och Verklighet” shows Nordic nature from the 17th century onwards.

In Ostersund you find one of Europe’s finest facilities for cross country skiing and biathlon and most of Sweden´s leading sport athletes live and train here. Book a ski lesson, try out the tracks and relax afterwards with a SPA journey through Scandinavian bathing traditions.

This winter Ostersund will also host, except from the IIHF Ice Hockey U 18 Women´s World Championships a number of international events such as the European Curling Championships, Biathlon World Cup and Para World Championships in cross country skiing and biathlon.

February sees the opening of the Winter Park with walking-, skiing- and long distance skating tracks on the ice of Lake Storsjön and a large outdoor area in the harbor with sun deck chairs, barbecue area and lots of activities.

Ostersund has a lot to offer and we are happy to share it with you!
