The Organizing Committee of the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Prague and Ostrava is satisfied with the current development of its preparations. The organizers in Ostrava expect a large number of fans, whom they want to attract with an interesting accompanying program. At the same time, the recruitment of volunteers is starting.

Ostrava Arena looks forward to a packed Group B

Some of best ice hockey players will come to Ostrava for the third time in history. "The Moravian-Silesian region is a sports destination, and the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship is a great opportunity for us to promote our beautiful region and show the world not only what kind of sporting nation we are but also how we can handle organizing organizing international events," said the deputy governor of Moravian-Silesian region Jakub Unucka.

The international ice hockey is returning to the Moravian-Silesian metropolis after four years, when Ostrava hosted the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship. "We are happy that a top-class international ice hockey event will be held in Ostrava again. The IIHF returns to us regularly and gladly because we have great fans, and we can organize sport events at the highest level. I am sure that with the 2024 IIHF WM we will motivate many more children to start playing this great sport and we will raise a number of young ice hockey players who will represent us all over the world in the future. After all, we support sport in a long-term and sustainable way," said the mayor of the Host City of Ostrava, Jan Dohnal.

The organizers expect great fan support from Slovakia and Poland

Due to the huge interest in ticket sales in the first phase, it can be assumed that the interest of fans will be high, not only in Prague but also in Ostrava. "Tickets for the Slovak games were sold out within a few hours in the first sales phase. Of course, there is also large interest from Poland and our ice hockey region, which tells us that the Group B in Ostrava will be a great attraction. We are well prepared for the influx of sports fans. We are already far in the preparations because the organizing team is made up of very experienced professionals who know what they are doing. Therefore, we would like to get over the high bar from the previous 2015 IIHF WM" declared the member of the Central organizing committee, Petr Bříza.

An integral part of the preparations is the Official Fan Zone, which will be located right next to the Ostrava Arena. "We are currently working on preparations for the program, which we would like to bring closer also to foreign visitors. That is also why we are considering inviting bands from countries of participating teams to make ice hockey fans really feel like at home," added Petr Bříza.
