The 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Disciplinary Panel has issued a one (1) game suspension to Canada’s Byram, Bowen (#4) for violating Official Playing Rule 61 (Slashing) against Finland's Puljujarvi, Jesse (#13).
The incident occurred at 15:20 in the 1st period of Game #39 between Canada and Finland on 18 May 2024.
The Championship Disciplinary Panel determined the Player swung his stick into the groin area of FIN #13, with a degree of force which could have endangered FIN #13, therefore violated Official Playing Rule 61 (Slashing). Additionally, it was considered that the level of force used by the Player while not looking in the direction of where he was swinging his stick, heightens the level of recklessness displayed by the Player.
For the above-mentioned reasons, the Disciplinary Panel determined that the Player violated Official Playing Rule 61 (Slashing), and shall be sanctioned as follows:
  • Suspension for one game

Due to the suspension, the Player will miss today’s game between Switzerland and Canada.
