The 2025 IIHF Championship Disciplinary Panel for the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, Division II Group A, has issued formal Warning to Israel’s Amit Ben Tov stemming from a kicking incident.
The incident occurred at 7:12 of the first period during Game #4 between Netherlands and Israel on 30 April 2025. Ben Tov was assessed a five-minute major and game misconduct for kicking during a melee.
Ben Tov was pulled to the ice by two Netherlands players during a skirmish and was being held down by his jersey. Believing one of the opponents was going to punch him, he brought his leg up in defence in what appeared to be a kicking motion.
The Championship Disciplinary Panel determined that Ben Tov should be issued a formal Warning because even if he acted only in defence, his leg nevertheless made an upwards motion towards an opponent. As a result, he violated Official Playing Rule 49 (Kicking).
Although a Warning carries no suspension with it, it can be used in further disciplinary cases during the 2025 IIHF World Championship II-A involving Ben Tov to determine the potential level of sanctioning for any other actions.
