Slovakia is gearing up to host the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship, as the next generation of global hockey stars prepares to take center stage in late April 2026. The tournament will be played in Trencin and Bratislava, bringing together the world’s top 10 U18 national teams for one of the most important events in junior international hockey.

Both host cities have confirmed that their arenas are fully prepared for the championship, while the Organizing Committee has officially launched ticket sales for individual games, including the highly anticipated playoff round.

Trencin Set as Main Championship Hub

The main tournament venue will be Pavol Demitra Ice Stadium in Trencin, where Group A, featuring the host nation Slovakia, will compete. The city will also host the semifinals and medal games.

Over the past several years, Trencin has invested more than EUR 13 million in modernizing the arena. The upgrades included a new refrigeration system, renovated stands, improved entrances and locker rooms, roof repairs, new lighting and technologies, upgraded electrical and ventilation systems, enhanced insulation, a new façade and the installation of photovoltaic panels.

“The long-term modernization of the ice stadium has created the conditions to host an event of the highest level,” said Richard Rybnicek. “We are ready to welcome the world’s top junior talents in an environment that meets strict international standards.”

The local club HK Dukla Trencin has also supported preparations by relocating its final games of the season to other arenas in the region.

“We appreciate the club’s willingness to help create the best possible conditions for the championship,” said Roman Sykora.

Bratislava Ready to Deliver International Hockey

Games will also be played in Bratislava at the Vladimír Dzurilla Ice Stadium in the Ruzinov district, where nearly EUR 1 million have also been invested. The modernization focused on technical and operational improvements to ensure the arena meets the requirements of a top-level international event.

Ruzinov Mayor Martin Chren emphasized:

“We are pleased that fans will have the opportunity to watch high-quality hockey and athletes who may soon establish themselves in the top clubs. The investment has enhanced both the technical level and safety standards of our arena, and thanks to the improved facilities, many future talents will find opportunities here as well.

Hundreds of guests to watch emerging talents

Approximately 250 players will travel to Slovakia, accompanied by around 100 team staff members. Each delegation will consist of roughly 35 people, including about 25 players and 10 staff members.

The tournament organization will be handled by an Organizing Committee of approximately 50 specialists, supported by 10 team hosts and around 100 volunteers will contribute to the event’s operations. The championship will also involve approximately 30 referees and 15 IIHF representatives.

The tournament will also attract enormous attention from professional hockey organizations. Approximately 300 scouts from the National Hockey League, the Canadian Hockey League and leading European leagues are expected to attend, closely evaluating the next generation of talent ahead of future professional drafts.

Slovak Ice Hockey Federation President Miroslav Satan said:

“The IIHF U18 World Championship is one of the most important tournaments. The presence of hundreds of scouts confirms that this is one of the key youth events on the international hockey calendar. Our ambition is to deliver a professionally organized championship that will serve as a strong showcase for Slovak hockey.”

Strong Demand for Tickets

At a press conference in Trencin, the Organizing Committee also provided an update on ticket sales. Fan interest in the tournament is already high. Tickets for individual games are now available, including those for the quarterfinals, semifinals, bronze medal game and final.

Quarterfinal games will be played in both cities, while the semifinals and medal games will be held exclusively in Trencin. Ticket demand is significant, with prices starting at EUR 5 in Trencin and EUR 8 in Bratislava. Organizers report increasing demand and gradually filling capacities at both venues.
