The 83rd IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship ended on Sunday. 470,853 fans have seen the games in the Steel Arena in Kosice, and at the Ondrej Nepela Arena in Bratislava.

“The attendance of the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship has exceeded our expectations. In 2011, the venues in Bratislava and Kosice were visited by 406,000 hockey fans. We are very pleased that we have managed to surpass this number already after the quarterfinals. The decision to have the Slovak national team in Kosice was a good one. The attendance at both arenas was high. Almost 185,000 people saw games in Kosice, nine of which were sold out. And even more fans found their way to the arena in Bratislava where 19 matches have been sold out,” said Igor Nemecek, Director of the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Organizing Committee.

Slovakia has become a Hockey Republic for a couple of days thanks to the official fan zones of the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship at Istropolis in Bratislava, and at the Kulturpark in Kosice. There, more than 230,000 fans enjoyed the games and the great atmosphere of the championship. Fun Radio presenters Junior and Marcel took care of providing a fun mood in Kosice, while Sajfa, Julo, Vera, Didiana and Mimo entertained the fan zone in Bratislava.

“The International Ice Hockey Federation has expressed maximum satisfaction with the organization of the championship. As well, some individual teams were very pleased and satisfied with our organization and their stay in Slovakia. Even the President of IIHF, RenĂ© Fasel, expressed his great satisfaction with our work,” Nemecek added.

The second IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship fully organized in Slovakia welcomed 120 NHL player, which is the highest number in the last five years. More than 11,000 people were accredited. More than 1.3 billion viewers in 166 countries watched the ice hockey games on TV. Working alongside the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, the Organizing Committee organized 25 press conferences and briefings, and published more than 50 press releases.
