On 21 April, exactly a month before the start of the 2021 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, the official event song "For Glory and Joy" had its premiere.

The tournament’s organizing committee chose popular Latvian band Astro'n'out to create the song.

"It is a great honour to create the official song of such an important event. The song is about going for victories and we believe that everybody in the global hockey community will be able to associate themselves with the message of this song, as well as listeners who challenge themselves every day, striving for new personal achievements," says the group's singer Mara Upmane-Holsteine.

Mara Upmane-Holsteine also emphasizes that the families and hockey players shown in the video of the song are not actors, but families representing the Latvian hockey family. These families symbolize the message of the song: behind all the victories is long, selfless work and selfless family support.

"The new hockey song is beautiful, it expresses an emotional and positive message, it inspires," Edgars Buncis, the head of the organizing committee, said with satisfaction about the cooperation with Astro'n'out. He hopes that the outcome of the authors' creative work will become a hit among hockey fans and beyond.

Arena Riga, which was built for the 2006 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship and is home to KHL team Dinamo Riga, will be the main venue and host Group B, two quarter-final games (including Latvia’s game if qualified), the semi-finals and medal games.

The Olympic Sports Centre across the street will be converted into a 6,000-seat ice arena to host Group A and two quarter-final games.
