A nerve-jangling battle for survival in Tampere went to Austria. Great Britain led 2-0 and 3-1 in a game that it had to win in regulation, but the Austrians rallied to win it 5-3 and secure their place at this level for another season.

Trailing 3-1 midway through the game, Latvia scored three consecutive power-play goals and defeated Great Britain in the penultimate game for each team in the group stage.

Finland did what was expected of it, easing to a comfortable win over Great Britain. The host nation shared its goals around, with Niklas Friman, Juuso Hietanen, Valtteri Filppula, Joel Armia, Saku Maenalanen and Toni Rajala all on target in a 6-0 verdict.

Team USA bounced back from its loss to Finland with 3-0 victory over Great Britain. This turned into a routine win for the Americans, but it took some time to overcome some battling British resistance.
