After earning a perfect 3-0 record so far in the preliminary round, the United States leads the second Power Rankings of the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.

Wow! Who saw all this coming? After beating three nations in regulation time – including a 4-1 win over defending champion Finland – to open the 2023 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, the U.S. takes over first place in our second Power Rankings. The Swedes move up to second place, relishing their hard-fought 2-1 shootout victory over their Finnish archrivals. And the Swiss surge into third place with a remarkable run of three shutouts versus Slovenia (7-0), Norway (3-0), and Kazakhstan (5-0). Rest assured we’ll witness more excitement and surprises as the preliminary round rolls along in Tampere and Riga!
