The IIHF Championship Disciplinary Panel for the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World U20 Championship IIA has issued a one-game suspension to Spain’s Héctor Acuña for Dangerous Tripping.
The incident occurred at 10:25 of the second period in Game #9 of the tournament between Spain and Romania. After receiving a legal body check along the boards by a Romanian player, Acuña used his leg to kick the leg of the opposing player from behind, causing him to fall dangerously to the ice and leaving the Romanian player in a vulnerable position and unable to protect himself.
This is a Dangerous Trip and constitutes a violation of Official Playing Rule 57 – Dangerous Tripping.
The 2026 IIHF Championship Disciplinary Panel has determined that Acuña will receive a one (1) game suspension, in accordance with IIHF Disciplinary Regulations, Article 10.5.
Acuña will serve his suspension in Game #11, Spain vs. Korea, on Jan. 8, 2026.
