2024 IIHF Junior WJC in Gothenburg has been a huge success. After Friday's final, it was clear that the previous attendance record from Malmö’s edition in 2014 had been broken.
The 2014 IIHF WJC in Malmö ten years ago was a great audience success, with 144,000 spectators throughout the tournament. Now WJC in Gothenburg can boast with the impressive number of 170,673.
- “It feels incredibly satisfying, it has always been our goal to beat that number and now we have done it with flying colors”, says Mikael Haglund, 2024 IIHF Junior World Championship’s General Secretary.
Interest in the tournament has been extremely high throughout the championship, and the tickets released in March were immediately sold out.
There has also been great interest at home behind TV screens. When Sweden played against Switzerland, the match was seen on national TV (SVT) by as many as 2.4 million viewers on SVT, as well as over 400,000 unique starts on SVT Play.
